Youth Group News!

Students From St. Gabriel Catholic School and Bridgeport Catholic Academy Visit Shrine of Christ's Passion On Friday, Sept. 6th, the combined Youth Group from both parishes organized a pilgrimage for the 8th grade students from Bridgeport Catholic Academy and St. Gabriel Catholic School to the Shrine of Christ's Passion in St. John, Indiana. The Shrine is an interactive half-mile winding pathway that begins with the Last Supper and Garden of Gethsemane. We then experienced the passion of Christ by walking and praying at all of the outdoor Stations of the Cross. Our tour was led by Phil and Liz Carr. Phil grew up in Canaryville, and was a member of St. Gabriel Parish! He and his wife retired to Indiana, and do a great job with this ministry. This is the second time our schools have joined together for a religious experience like this, and all who participated were "deeply moved" by this prayerful experience! Afterwards, we took a tour of the beautiful St. John Catholic Church, which sits majestically on a high hill, overlooking the Shrine grounds. It is truly one of the most outstanding Catholic Churches that has been built in recent years! Two of their gorgeous glass windows portray St. John Paul II and St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Don't forget - our next Youth Group activity will be a trip to St. James Parish (29th & Wabash) on Saturday, September 14th. We will be distributing food to the needy that morning, and I hope all of you will join with me. This event is open to people of all ages - youth as well as adults -, so invite your friends and family to participate. The event takes place outdoors in their parking lot, so dress appropriately for the weather. I could use some of your parents to drive. Just let me know if they can drive, and how many they can drive. We would like to leave together as a group, so you need to gather at 7:30 a.m.that day at St. Gabriel School Hall. We will take attendance, give final instructions, and then go to St. James in cars driven by volunteer parents. If you prefer to just meet us at St. James, that is also fine, but let me know. It's a fun, enjoyable experience, and it will warm your heart to assist those in need. If you have any questions, e-mail me or call me at 773-268-9595. Also, if you know of anyone who would like to join the Youth Group, please let me know. Feel free to bring them Saturday. We will be finished that morning by 11:00 a.m. We are off to a good start, thanks to your involvement! God bless the Youth Group, for the good work we are doing! Fr. Rich
