Staff, Students, Families and All in our St. Gabriel Parish and School Community.

I wanted to take a moment and say "Thank-You" to all the St. Gabriel School Staff, Families and Students and extended family that helped accomplish our learning goals for week 1 of our school closure. Your hard work is very encouraging during this time and I especially encourage you to send your pictures in of work and play during our school closure.

I would like to invite all of you in our School and connected Parish community to join the "Adams Family" as we start our first week of "Shelter in Place" as my family will be praying each night from 7 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., especially for our St. Gabriel School and Parish Community, as well as others. Our family will continue to do this each evening until this is over.

I continue to forward E-Learning resources that are coming to me from many different educational entities to my teaching staff to share with parents for their particular grade.  Take time to celebrate your child(ren's) successful completion of homework daily and again at the end of the week. Again, this is an opportunity to take advantage of the time at home and focus on Reading at every grade level.

I would like to suggest to our students with the help of the "family" to do 1 helpful thing each day to make each day Monday through Friday better for someone, and for the students who would like, to keep a journal of their helpful activities, to share when we return to school. Be creative. Possibilities might include:

1) Make your own card to brighten up someone's day and mail it or share it with them.

2) Help a brother, sister, Mom or Dad at home.

3) Tell someone "Thank You for something they have done to help your family.

4) Use social media to encourage someone with a "prayer for them".

5) Each night before you go to bed say your prayers and "Thank God" for all your blessings that day.

These are just the tip of the iceberg to get things started. Use your own imagination to help create a more positive environment for those around you.  Share ideas with your classmates and teacher.

Some good news for our school community! Recently, in early March we had an inspection from the Illinois State Board of Education for our periodic "Non-Public Renewal of our State Certification as an Approved Pre-K-8 School which occurs for all Illinois schools about every 5 years." We were visited by a team of evaluators that spent half a day going over everything from Academics, School Policies compliance, Health and Safety regulations. We received the preliminary report from the evaluation team which found no violations or non-compliance issues to be addressed at our school and we received several "Commendations, for outstanding programing with our Math partnership through Big Shoulders with UIC, our Science Partnership for "hands-on" lab work with the Loyola University, and Dr. Harry London (Retired DePaul University Staff) providing professional development for our staff, doing extra safety drills not required by the State of Illinois for private schools and special academic work related to "Patriotism" not required for Non-public schools, are some examples cited in the report. Indeed something to celebrate by all at St. Gabriel and a special thank you to all our staff who worked so hard preparing for this visit.

Blessings, more later in the week, Happy Monday students-your the "BEST" keep up the great work!

"So you shall serve the Lord your God, and I will bless your bread and water. And, I will take sickness away from the midst of you." Exodus 23:25.
